Kyoto.

On Wednesday we split up. Julie, Phil and the girls took an organised tour of the sights of Kyoto, considering the amount of travel required, the heat and the children. Jen, Jo and I did fewer sights, but considering the price of the tour was substantial.....

The Golden Temple.

Literally covered in gold leaf.

Zen raked gardens.

At one of these temples we had whisked green tea. It was delicious.

This temple, Kiyomizu-dera, is one of 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kyoto.

This is a Torii, the gate of Shinto shrine.

This is Fushimi-Inari Taisha Shrine. Over 1000 torii climb 4kms up Mt. Inari.

Unfortunately, we got there at dusk and it quickly got dark. We didn't venture too far up the hill, but enough to get a good impression. We really liked Kyoto. One day is not nearly enough.
